Description

Human Somatostatin Receptor 1 ELISA

The membrane protein SSTR1 (Somatostatin Receptor 1) belongs to the somatostatin receptor superfamily, which includes seven transmembrane segments. Somatostatins are peptide hormones that control a wide range of cellular activities including neurotransmission, cell growth, and endocrine signalling, as well as inhibiting the release of numerous hormones and other secretory proteins. The biological effects of somatostatinins are modulated by a family of G-protein coupled somatostatin receptors that are expressed in a tissue-specific manner. Somatostatin receptors form homodimers and heterodimers with other members of the superfamily, as well as other G-protein coupled receptors and receptor tyrosine kinases. SSTR1 has a greater affinity for somatostatin-14 than -28. SSTR1 has been associated with a variety of ailments, including intracranial hypertension and idiopathic and acromegaly. Signalling by GPCR and Peptide ligand-binding receptors are among the pathways it is connected to.
