Human Galectin-3/LGALS3 Recombinant Protein

The Galectin family of lectins consists of beta-galactoside binding proteins with homologous carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs). They also have hemagglutination activity, which is due to their bivalent carbohydrate binding capabilities. Intracellularly and extracellularly, galectins are active. They have diverse effects on many cellular functions including adhesion; migration; polarity; chemotaxis; proliferation; apoptosis; and differentiation. Galectins may be involved in a wide range of diseases, including autoimmune disorders; allergy responses; inflammation; tumor cell metastasis; atherosclerosis; and diabetic issues. The prototype galectins (1; 2; 5; 7; 10; 11, 13; 14) are molecules containing one CRD and form either a monomer or a noncovalent homodimer. Galectin3 chimera galectins (Galectin3) with a single CRD linked to a nonlectin domain, and Galectins (4; 6; 8; 9; 12), which include two CRDs connected by a linker peptide. Galectins lack a known signal peptide and are instead found in the cytosolic compartments where they fulfill intracellular roles. Galectins, however, can also be secreted via one or more yet unknown nonclassical secreting pathways to operate extracellularly. Individuals within the galectin family have diverse tissue distributions and varying carbohydrate-binding preferences. Each family member may preferentially bind to a unique subset of cell surface glycoproteins. Human Galectin-3/LGALS3 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
