Human Galectin/LGALS1 Recombinant Protein

Galectin-1 (Gal-1, GAL1), is a member of the galectins, a family of animal lectins ranging from Caenorhabditis elegans to humans, which is defined by their affinity for beta-galactosides and by significant sequence similarity in the carbohydrate-binding site. The molecule GAL1 is a homodimer with a subunit molecular weight of 14.5 kDa, which contains six cysteine residues per polypeptide. The cysteine residues must be in a free state in order to guarantee that the protein structure maintains lectin activity. GAL1, an endogenous lectin that is widely expressed at sites of inflammation and tumor growth, has been suggested as a viable immunosuppressive drug to restore immune cell tolerance and homeostasis in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. On the other hand, galectin-1 plays a role in tumor progression at various stages, such as cell adhesion, migration, and tumour immune escape. This indicates that blocking galectin-1 may provide therapeutic advantages in cancer. Lysosome-associated membrane glycoproteins and fibronectin, laminin, as well as T-cell glycoproteins CD43 and CD45 have all been shown to bind galectin-1. Gal-1 and its ligands are thought to be important regulators of T-cell homeostasis and survival, T-cell immune disorders, inflammation and allergies, as well as host-pathogen interactions. Human Galectin/LGALS1 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
