Hematopoietic Prostaglandin D Synthase (HPGDS) belongs to the GST superfamily and Sigma family. HPGDS contains one GST C-terminal domain and one GST N-terminal domain. It is present as homodimers in living organisms, and it is highly expressed in fat tissue, macrophages, and the placenta. HPGDS is a cytosolic enzyme that isomerizes PGH(2). A novel enzyme, HPGDS, is a bifunctional protein that transforms PGH2 to PGD2 as well as having little glutathione-peroxidase activity towards cumenehydroperoxide.
