Description

17-OHP ELISA Kit

17-OHP ELISA kits are used to detect 17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. 17-Hydroxyprogesterone is a C21 steroid produced from progesterone or from 17-hydroxypregnenolone, primarily in the adrenal cortex and gonads, and serves as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of cortisol and sex steroids. The enzyme 21-hydroxylase converts it to 11-deoxycortisol, so any impairment of this step causes 17-OHP to accumulate. Markedly elevated concentrations are the classic biochemical hallmark of congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency, and the hormone is the primary marker used in newborn screening for this condition. Levels also rise physiologically in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and in pregnancy, and moderate increases may be found in polycystic ovary syndrome and adrenal disease.
