Description

5-HETE ELISA Kit

5-HETE ELISA kits are used to detect 5-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic Acid (5-HETE) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. 5-HETE is a hydroxylated fatty acid formed from arachidonic acid by 5-lipoxygenase through the unstable intermediate 5-HPETE, which is reduced by glutathione peroxidases. It is produced mainly by neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes and macrophages, and can be further oxidised by 5-hydroxyeicosanoid dehydrogenase to 5-oxo-ETE, a far more potent compound. 5-HETE and 5-oxo-ETE act through the OXE receptor, which promotes chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils and neutrophils, and 5-HETE can also stimulate cell proliferation in some tumour cells. As a product of the same enzyme that makes the leukotrienes, it is regarded as a marker of 5-lipoxygenase activity, and it has been associated with asthma, allergic inflammation and cancer.
