Description

ALCAR ELISA Kit

ALCAR ELISA kits are used to detect Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Acetylcarnitine, or ALCAR, is the acetyl ester of carnitine and the most abundant acylcarnitine in the body. It is formed by carnitine acetyltransferase, which transfers acetyl groups between coenzyme A and carnitine, so it helps to buffer the acetyl-CoA pool and to transport acetyl units across mitochondrial membranes. Acetylcarnitine can cross the blood-brain barrier, where it may contribute to acetylcholine synthesis, and it supports energy metabolism and membrane function in neurons. It has been studied for neuroprotective and antioxidant effects, and lower brain levels have been reported in ageing and Alzheimer's disease. Plasma acetylcarnitine is also measured in studies of fatty acid oxidation, mitochondrial function, metabolic disease and neuropathy.
