Description

ASD ELISA Kit

ASD ELISA kits are used to detect Androstenedione (ASD) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Androstenedione (ASD) is a C19 steroid hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex and the gonads and is a key intermediate in sex steroid biosynthesis. It is a weak androgen in itself, but it is converted to testosterone by 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and to estrone by aromatase, so it serves as a precursor of both androgens and oestrogens, particularly in peripheral tissues and in postmenopausal women. Its production follows a diurnal rhythm and is controlled by ACTH and luteinising hormone. Elevated androstenedione levels may be found in congenital adrenal hyperplasia, polycystic ovary syndrome and androgen-secreting tumours, so it is an important analyte in endocrine research and in studies of reproductive physiology in livestock.
