Description

Bovine T3 ELISA Kit

Bovine T3 ELISA kits are used to detect Triiodothyronine (T3) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. T3, or triiodothyronine, is the biologically most active thyroid hormone. It is produced in small amounts by the thyroid gland, but most circulating T3 comes from enzymatic removal of one iodine atom from thyroxine in peripheral tissues such as liver, kidney and muscle. T3 enters cells and binds thyroid hormone receptors in the nucleus, regulating transcription of genes that control basal metabolic rate, thermogenesis, cardiac function, growth and neural development. Most of it travels bound to transport proteins, and only the small free fraction is active. Raised T3 is typical of hyperthyroidism, including Graves disease, whereas low levels may accompany hypothyroidism or severe non-thyroidal illness, so T3 is measured in assessing thyroid status.
