Description

Chicken COL7 ELISA Kit

Chicken COL7 ELISA kits are used to detect Collagen Type VII (COL7) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. COL7 refers to type VII collagen, the main structural component of the anchoring fibrils that attach the epidermis to the underlying dermis at the basement membrane zone. It is a long-chain collagen made of three identical alpha 1 chains assembled into a triple helix, and is made mainly by keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Anchoring fibrils loop around dermal collagen fibres and stabilise skin integrity. Mutations in the COL7A1 gene cause dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, in dominant and recessive forms, in which reduced or absent type VII collagen leads to blistering, scarring and fragile skin. COL7 is therefore studied in inherited skin fragility, in wound healing, and in epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, an autoimmune blistering disease in which autoantibodies target it.
