Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) catalyzes the synthesis of acetylcholine (ACh), a neurotransmitter essential for motor control, memory, and autonomic function. ChAT is selectively expressed in cholinergic neurons, making it a reliable marker for cholinergic system integrity. Loss of ChAT activity is a hallmark of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Down syndrome. Reduced ChAT expression correlates with cognitive decline and impaired synaptic transmission in affected brain regions. As a neuron-specific enzyme with a direct role in neurotransmitter synthesis, ChAT is both a diagnostic marker and a therapeutic target in disorders characterized by cholinergic dysfunction. This antibody is also available conjugated to ATTO 390, ATTO 488, ATTO 594, APC, Biotin, FITC, HRP, PerCP and RPE. Supplied in 100 µg.
