Description

Cor ELISA Kit

Cor ELISA kits are used to detect Cortisone (Cor) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Cortisone is a steroid hormone and an inactive metabolite of cortisol, produced when the enzyme 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 oxidizes cortisol, especially in the kidney, colon and placenta. It can be converted back into active cortisol by the type 1 enzyme in tissues such as the liver, adipose tissue and brain, so the balance between the two enzymes governs local glucocorticoid exposure. Active glucocorticoids regulate glucose metabolism, immune and inflammatory responses, blood pressure and the stress response, and cortisone itself is also used as a synthetic anti-inflammatory drug. Measuring cortisone together with cortisol provides information about adrenal function and glucocorticoid metabolism, and abnormal ratios have been associated with obesity, hypertension and Cushing-type disorders.
