Description

CS ELISA Kit

CS ELISA kits are used to detect Chondroitin Sulfate (CS) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CS (chondroitin sulfate) is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan made up of repeating disaccharide units of glucuronic acid and N-acetylgalactosamine, and it is attached to core proteins to form proteoglycans such as aggrecan and versican. It is abundant in cartilage, bone, skin, blood vessel walls and the brain, where it is a component of the extracellular matrix and perineuronal nets, and its sulfation pattern influences binding to growth factors and other proteins. Chondroitin sulfate contributes to the resilience of cartilage, to cell adhesion and to signalling in development and neural plasticity. Changes in its structure and levels have been associated with osteoarthritis, cancer progression and impaired nerve regeneration, and it is measured in studies of cartilage turnover.
