Description

DHEA ELISA Kit

DHEA ELISA kits are used to detect Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. DHEA is a C19 steroid hormone produced mainly by the adrenal cortex, with smaller amounts made in the gonads and brain. It circulates largely as its sulfate ester, DHEA-S, and serves as a precursor for the synthesis of androgens and oestrogens in peripheral tissues. DHEA levels peak in early adulthood and decline progressively with age, and the hormone is also described as a neurosteroid with roles in neuronal function and stress responses. Measurement of DHEA is of interest in studies of adrenal function, because abnormal levels may be seen in adrenal tumours, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as in research on ageing, metabolism and reproductive physiology.
