Description

Dog LEP ELISA Kit

Dog LEP ELISA kits are used to detect Leptin (LEP) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. LEP is an adipocyte-derived hormone that is a key regulator of energy balance and body weight, with circulating concentration broadly proportional to fat mass. It binds the leptin receptor LEPR in the hypothalamus, where it activates POMC neurons and inhibits NPY neurons to reduce appetite and raise energy expenditure, and it also acts on peripheral tissues to affect basal metabolism, reproduction, pancreatic beta-cell function, angiogenesis, bone mass, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal signalling and innate and adaptive immunity. In the intestine it reduces glucose absorption. Leptin deficiency from rare variants causes severe hyperphagia and early-onset obesity, while most obese individuals show high levels with leptin resistance. LEP is therefore studied in obesity, diabetes, reproduction and in livestock production traits.
