Description

Dog NSE ELISA Kit

Dog NSE ELISA kits are used to detect Enolase, Neuron Specific (NSE) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. NSE, or neuron-specific enolase, is the gamma subunit of the glycolytic enzyme enolase, and it is found at high levels in neurons and neuroendocrine cells, where it exists as a gamma-gamma homodimer or as an alpha-gamma heterodimer. As an enzyme it converts 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate in glycolysis and takes part in the reverse reaction of gluconeogenesis. It also has neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects, supporting the survival of central nervous system neurons in a calcium-dependent way. Because it leaks into cerebrospinal fluid and blood when neurons are damaged, raised NSE has been associated with stroke, traumatic brain injury and cardiac arrest. It is also a recognized tumor marker in small cell lung cancer and neuroblastoma.
