Description

Dog PG ELISA Kit

Dog PG ELISA kits are used to detect Progesterone (PG) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. PG, or progesterone, is a steroid hormone synthesised from cholesterol via pregnenolone and produced mainly by the corpus luteum of the ovary after ovulation, by the placenta during pregnancy, and in smaller amounts by the adrenal cortex and testis. It acts mainly through nuclear progesterone receptors to prepare the endometrium for implantation, maintain pregnancy by suppressing uterine contractions, and support breast development for lactation. Progesterone also has effects on the brain, bone and the cardiovascular and immune systems, and it is a precursor of other steroids, including corticosteroids and neurosteroids. Measurement of progesterone is used to confirm ovulation and to assess luteal function, early pregnancy viability and some disorders of the ovary and adrenal gland.
