Description

FA ELISA Kit

FA ELISA kits are used to detect Folic Acid (FA) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Folic acid (FA) is the synthetic, fully oxidised form of vitamin B9, a water-soluble vitamin also found naturally as folates in leafy vegetables, legumes and liver. After absorption it is reduced to tetrahydrofolate and its derivatives, which act as carriers of one-carbon units in the synthesis of purines, thymidylate and methionine, and therefore support DNA synthesis, repair and methylation. Adequate folate status is essential for cell division and for normal closure of the neural tube in the developing embryo. Low folate levels may be associated with megaloblastic anaemia, neural tube defects and raised homocysteine, so folic acid is widely measured in nutritional, haematological and prenatal research.
