Description

FK506 ELISA Kit

FK506 ELISA kits are used to detect Tacrolimus (FK506) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. FK506, also known as tacrolimus, is a macrolide immunosuppressant originally isolated from the soil bacterium Streptomyces tsukubaensis. It enters T cells and binds the immunophilin FKBP12, and this complex inhibits the phosphatase calcineurin, which prevents dephosphorylation of NFAT and so blocks transcription of interleukin-2 and other cytokines needed for T-cell activation. It is used to prevent rejection after kidney, liver, heart and other organ transplants and, topically, to treat atopic dermatitis. Because tacrolimus has a narrow therapeutic range and variable absorption and metabolism through CYP3A enzymes, its blood concentration is monitored closely, as levels that are too high may be associated with nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity, while low levels risk rejection.
