Description
RNA clean-up beads for NGS
GeniePure RNA Clean-up Beads are paramagnetic beads for fast, column-free purification and concentration of RNA. They efficiently remove proteins, salts and other impurities while preserving RNA integrity, and are compatible with automation, making them ideal for RNA library preparation and other downstream applications.
The beads use SPRI (solid phase reversible immobilisation) chemistry and are used in exactly the same way as equivalent SPRI bead products, so no condition optimisation is needed. They purify RNA from in vitro reaction mixtures, such as during RNA library preparation, and are compatible with many DNA and RNA library prep kits. They are not intended for direct RNA extraction from cells or tissues. For research use only.
Key Features
| Drop-in replacement | Used exactly like equivalent SPRI beads, with no need to test new conditions. | |
| Comparable performance | Recovery rate and library sizes are highly comparable to leading SPRI beads. | |
| Broad kit compatibility | Suitable for DNA and RNA library preparation with library prep kits from many suppliers. | |
| Strict lot quality control | Each lot is tested for consistent performance. |

Storage
Store at 2 ~ 8°C.
- Equilibrate the beads
- Remove the beads from 2 ~ 8°C and leave at room temperature for at least 30 min before use.
- Bind RNA
- Mix the beads thoroughly by vortexing or inverting. Add beads at 1.8× the volume of the RNA solution.
- Mix thoroughly by pipetting 10 times, then incubate at room temperature for 5 min.
- Separate
- Place the tube on a magnetic stand for 5 min. When the solution is clear, carefully remove and discard the supernatant.
- Wash twice with ethanol
- Keeping the tube on the magnet, add 200 μl of freshly prepared 80% ethanol and incubate for 30 sec at room temperature. Do not resuspend the beads. Remove and discard the ethanol.
- Repeat once.
- Dry the beads
- Keep the tube on the magnet and air-dry the beads with the cap open for 5–10 min.
- Elute
- Remove the tube from the magnet. Add an appropriate volume of nuclease-free ddH2O, resuspend by pipetting 10 times and incubate at room temperature for 5 min.
- Place on the magnet for 5 min. When clear, transfer the supernatant to a new nuclease-free tube without disturbing the beads.
- Store or proceed
- Store the purified RNA at -30 ~ -15°C or proceed directly to the next step.
Q1: Can I use these beads to extract RNA directly from cells or tissues?
- No. The beads purify RNA from in vitro reaction mixtures, such as during RNA library preparation. They are not suitable for direct extraction from cells or tissues.
Q2: Do I need to change my existing SPRI bead protocol?
- No. The beads are used in exactly the same way as equivalent SPRI bead products, so no condition optimisation is needed.
Q3: Why is my RNA recovery low?
- Common causes are using beads that have not equilibrated to room temperature for at least 30 min or were not mixed well, and over-drying the beads, which causes cracking. Dry only until residual ethanol is gone.
Q4: What else do I need?
- 100% ethanol (to prepare 80% ethanol with nuclease-free water), nuclease-free ddH2O and tubes, and a magnetic stand.
