Description

Goat HP ELISA Kit

Goat HP ELISA kits are used to detect Haptoglobin (HP) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. HP, or haptoglobin, is an acute phase plasma glycoprotein made mainly by the liver and composed of alpha and beta chains that are cleaved from a single precursor. Its best known role is to bind free hemoglobin released during intravascular hemolysis with very high affinity, which prevents oxidative damage and kidney injury and allows iron to be recycled, since the complex is taken up by the CD163 scavenger receptor on macrophages. The uncleaved precursor of the alpha-2 variant is known as zonulin, which regulates intestinal tight junctions. Levels fall in hemolytic anemia and liver disease and rise in inflammation, infection and malignancy, so it is used as a marker of hemolysis and the acute phase response.
