Description

GS ELISA Kit

GS ELISA kits are used to detect Guanosine (GS) in biological samples. Guanosine (GS) is a purine nucleoside consisting of guanine linked to a ribose sugar, formed in the body from the breakdown of guanine nucleotides and RNA, and also made by dephosphorylation of GMP. It can be recycled through the purine salvage pathway via purine nucleoside phosphorylase, or degraded to guanine, xanthine and finally uric acid. Beyond its role in nucleotide metabolism, extracellular guanosine acts as a neuromodulator, particularly released from astrocytes, with neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory and trophic effects, and it modulates glutamatergic transmission. Altered guanosine levels have been reported in ischaemia, epilepsy and neurodegenerative conditions, and it is also affected by disorders of purine metabolism, so it is studied in metabolism and neuroscience research.
