Description

HS ELISA Kit

HS ELISA kits are used to detect Heparan Sulfate (HS) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. HS, heparan sulfate, is a linear, sulfated glycosaminoglycan composed of repeating glucosamine and uronic acid units, attached to core proteins as heparan sulfate proteoglycans on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix and basement membranes. Its patterns of sulfation allow it to bind a large number of proteins, including growth factors such as FGFs and VEGF, chemokines, morphogens and enzymes, so it shapes their gradients and signalling, and it also supports cell adhesion, the filtration barrier of the kidney and lipoprotein uptake. Heparan sulfate is also exploited as an attachment receptor by many viruses and bacteria. Inherited defects in its degradation cause mucopolysaccharidoses such as Sanfilippo syndrome, and altered levels are being studied in cancer, inflammation and kidney disease.
