Description

Human a2PI ELISA Kit

Human a2PI ELISA kits are used to detect Alpha-2-Plasmin Inhibitor (a2PI) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. a2PI, alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor (also called alpha-2-antiplasmin or SERPINF2), is a serpin-family protease inhibitor synthesised mainly in the liver and found in plasma. Its major targets are plasmin and trypsin, though it also inactivates matriptase-3 and chymotrypsin. By rapidly inhibiting free plasmin and by being cross-linked to fibrin by factor XIIIa, it limits fibrinolysis and so protects newly formed clots from premature breakdown. Deficiency, caused by variants in the gene, produces a severe recessive bleeding disorder. Altered plasma levels may therefore reflect abnormal fibrinolysis, and low levels have been reported in liver disease, disseminated intravascular coagulation and during thrombolytic therapy, whereas raised levels may accompany thrombotic risk.
