Description

Human Acrosin ELISA

Acrosin (ACR) is the major proteinase in mature spermatozoa's acrosome. It is a serine proteinase with trypsin-like specificity. Proacrosin is the precursor of ACR, tt's stored in the acrosome. The active enzyme aids in the lysis of the zona pellucida, thus allowing for penetration of the sperm through the carbohydrate layers of the ovum's innermost glycoprotein layer. Only in the postmeiotic phases of spermatogenesis does proacrosin mRNA develop. Proacrosin is first observed in human haploid spermatids. Varicoceles and Chronic Congestive Splenomegaly are examples of diseases connected with the ACR. Reproduction is a known related pathway of ACR. The GO annotations relating to ACR gene function include serine-type endopeptidase activity and obsolete drug binding.
