Description

Human ACTG1 / Gamme Actin ELISA

Mutation in ACTG1 (Actin Gamma 1) has been linked to two distinct syndromes: DFNA20/26, a subtype of autosomal dominant non-syndromic sensorineural progressive hearing loss, and Baraitser-Winter syndrome. ACTG1 is cytosolic actin found in all cell types. Actins are conserved proteins that are involved in a variety of cell motility and cytoskeleton maintenance. Actin isoforms are divided into three categories: alpha, beta, and gamma. Alpha actins are present in muscle tissues and are an important part of the contractile apparatus. The beta and gamma actins are found together in most cell types, as parts of the cytoskeleton and as mediators of internal cell motility. The striated muscle contraction and the integrin pathway are two pathways affected by ACTG1. The protein binding and structural composition of the cytoskeleton are both noted in the gene ontology (GO) annotations for ACTG1. ACTB is a paralog of ACTG1
