Description

Human aCTx ELISA Kit

Human aCTx ELISA kits are used to detect Alpha-Crosslaps (aCTx) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Alpha-CrossLaps (aCTx) refers to the C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen in its non-isomerised, alpha form. Type I collagen is the main organic component of bone matrix, and its C-telopeptides are released into the circulation and urine when osteoclasts resorb bone. The alpha form is characteristic of newly synthesised, younger collagen, whereas the beta form arises through spontaneous isomerisation of aspartic acid as the matrix ages. Measuring alpha-CrossLaps therefore provides information about the turnover of recently formed bone matrix. Levels may be elevated in conditions with increased bone turnover, such as osteoporosis, Paget disease, hyperparathyroidism and bone metastasis, and they tend to fall during anti-resorptive treatment.
