Description

Human ADK ELISA Kit

Human ADK ELISA kits are used to detect Adenosine Kinase (ADK) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. ADK, or adenosine kinase, is a cytosolic and nuclear enzyme that phosphorylates adenosine at the 5-prime position in an ATP-dependent manner to form AMP. It is the main route for adenosine clearance and therefore a key regulator of adenosine levels, which in turn influence adenosine receptor signalling in the brain and other tissues. ADK also phosphorylates modified adenosines that contain N6-methyladenine, such as m6A, m6,6A and i6A, which arise from RNA degradation and are cytotoxic, so it is important for their detoxification. The enzyme is also tied to the methionine cycle through the removal of adenosine. Deficiency causes hypermethioninemia with developmental delay and seizures, and ADK is studied in epilepsy.
