Description

Human AMELX ELISA Kit

Human AMELX ELISA kits are used to detect Amelogenin, X-Linked (AMELX) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. AMELX is the X-linked form of amelogenin, the most abundant extracellular matrix protein secreted by ameloblasts during the formation of tooth enamel. Amelogenin self-assembles into nanospheres that guide and regulate the growth of hydroxyapatite crystallites during the secretory stage of enamel development, and it is progressively cleaved by proteases as the enamel matures. This role makes it central to the structural organisation and mineralisation of developing enamel. Mutations in AMELX cause X-linked amelogenesis imperfecta, in which teeth have a thin layer of enamel that is otherwise of normal hardness. Because the X and Y copies of the gene differ in size, amelogenin is also used in forensic and anthropological sex determination.
