Description

Human APC ELISA Kit

Human APC ELISA kits are used to detect Activated Protein C (APC) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. APC, or activated protein C, is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease formed when thrombin bound to thrombomodulin on the endothelial surface cleaves the zymogen protein C, a process enhanced by the endothelial protein C receptor. Together with its cofactor protein S, activated protein C inactivates coagulation factors Va and VIIIa, and in this way acts as a major natural anticoagulant that limits thrombin generation. It also has cytoprotective effects on endothelium, through signalling via protease-activated receptor 1, including anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic actions and preservation of barrier function. Resistance to activated protein C, such as that caused by the factor V Leiden variant, and protein C deficiency are risk factors for venous thrombosis, and levels may be altered in sepsis.
