Description

Human APOB48 ELISA Kit

Human APOB48 ELISA kits are used to detect Apolipoprotein B48 (APOB48) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. APOB48 is the shorter form of apolipoprotein B, produced exclusively in the small intestine, and in some species the liver, by apolipoprotein B mRNA editing. A cytidine deaminase complex converts a codon into a premature stop, giving a protein that is about 48 percent the length of full-length apolipoprotein B100 and lacks its LDL receptor-binding region. APOB48 is an essential structural component of chylomicrons, the lipoprotein particles that assemble in enterocytes and carry dietary fat and fat-soluble vitamins into the lymph and circulation. Each chylomicron carries a single molecule, so APOB48 reflects the number of intestinal lipoprotein particles. Raised APOB48 has been associated with postprandial lipaemia, impaired chylomicron remnant clearance, insulin resistance and increased cardiovascular risk.
