Description

Human APRT ELISA Kit

Human APRT ELISA kits are used to detect Adenine Phosphoribosyltransferase (APRT) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. APRT, adenine phosphoribosyltransferase, is a cytosolic enzyme of the purine salvage pathway, expressed in virtually all tissues. It converts free adenine and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate into adenosine monophosphate, a reaction that recycles adenine at much lower energy cost than building AMP from scratch. When the enzyme is absent, adenine is oxidised by xanthine dehydrogenase to the poorly soluble 2,8-dihydroxyadenine, which crystallises in the kidney. Inherited APRT deficiency therefore leads to urolithiasis and can cause crystal nephropathy and renal failure, and it is often mistaken for uric acid stones. APRT activity and urinary 2,8-dihydroxyadenine are measured in diagnosis, and the enzyme is also studied in nucleotide metabolism.
