Description

Human ATP7b ELISA Kit

Human ATP7b ELISA kits are used to detect ATPase, Cu++ Transporting Beta Polypeptide (ATP7b) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. ATP7b is the copper-transporting ATPase 2, also known as the Wilson disease protein, a P-type ATPase that moves copper ions across membranes. It is expressed mainly in the liver, where it supplies copper to ceruloplasmin and ensures efflux of copper from hepatocytes into the bile in response to copper overload, so it is central to copper homeostasis. Variants in the gene cause Wilson disease, an autosomal recessive disorder in which copper cannot be incorporated into ceruloplasmin or excreted into bile and therefore accumulates in the liver and subsequently in the brain and kidney, producing neurological signs and cirrhosis. ATP7b is thus an important research target in copper metabolism, liver disease and neurodegeneration.
