Description

Human Barbiturates ELISA Kit

Human Barbiturates ELISA kits are used to detect Barbiturates in serum, plasma, urine and other biological samples. Barbiturates are a class of drugs derived from barbituric acid, a cyclic compound of urea and malonic acid, with substitutions at carbon 5 that determine their potency and duration of action, from short-acting thiopental to long-acting phenobarbital. They enhance the action of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at the GABA-A receptor by prolonging chloride channel opening, and at higher doses open the channel directly, producing sedation, anaesthesia and anticonvulsant effects. Barbiturates were widely used as sedatives and hypnotics but have been largely replaced by benzodiazepines because of their narrow safety margin, dependence risk and potential for fatal respiratory depression in overdose. They are measured in toxicology, forensic and drug screening research.
