Description

Human BCAM ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human BCAM ELISA kits are used to detect Basal Cell Adhesion Molecule (BCAM) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. BCAM, the basal cell adhesion molecule, is also known as CD239 or the Lutheran blood group glycoprotein, a transmembrane immunoglobulin superfamily protein found on epithelial and endothelial cells, smooth muscle and red blood cells. It serves as a receptor for laminin alpha-5, so it mediates adhesion to the extracellular matrix, and it also takes part in cell motility, migration and invasion, and it interacts with integrins. On erythrocytes, increased BCAM adhesion to laminin, driven by signalling through JAK2, has been associated with the abnormal adhesion of red cells in sickle cell disease and polycythaemia vera. BCAM is also studied in vascular biology and oncology.
