Description

Human BDG ELISA Kit

Human BDG ELISA kits are used to detect beta-D-glucan (BDG) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. BDG, beta-D-glucan, is a polysaccharide made of D-glucose units joined by beta-glycosidic linkages and is a major structural component of the cell walls of fungi, as well as of some bacteria, yeasts, oats and barley. Fungal beta-1,3-glucans are recognized by innate immune receptors such as Dectin-1 and complement receptor 3, which trigger phagocytosis, cytokine release and trained immunity, and for this reason some beta-glucans are studied as immune modulators. Because the molecule is shed into the bloodstream during invasive fungal infection, circulating BDG is used as a marker of infections caused by organisms such as Candida, Aspergillus and Pneumocystis, although levels may also be raised by certain medical products and bacteremia.
