Description

Human BDH1 ELISA Kit

Human BDH1 ELISA kits are used to detect 3-Hydroxybutyrate Dehydrogenase 1 (BDH1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. BDH1 is a mitochondrial enzyme that interconverts the ketone bodies 3-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate in an NAD-dependent reaction. It is associated with the inner mitochondrial membrane and requires phospholipid for activity. Because ketone bodies serve as an alternative fuel during fasting, prolonged exercise or low carbohydrate intake, BDH1 is central to ketone body utilisation in tissues such as the heart, brain and skeletal muscle. Changes in BDH1 expression have been reported in heart failure, diabetes and certain cancers, where altered ketone metabolism may contribute to disease. It is therefore of interest to researchers studying energy metabolism and ketogenic states.
