Description

Human BLVRB ELISA Kit

Human BLVRB ELISA kits are used to detect Biliverdin Reductase B (BLVRB) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. BLVRB (biliverdin reductase B, also flavin reductase) is an NAD(P)H-dependent oxidoreductase that reduces biliverdin IX-beta to bilirubin IX-beta, the major heme catabolite in the fetus, and so promotes fetal heme degradation. It also reduces a range of flavins, including riboflavin, FAD and FMN, as well as methemoglobin, and it can act as a nitrosyltransferase that modifies cysteine residues of proteins such as the insulin receptor and IRS1. In adult tissues it regulates hematopoiesis, intermediary metabolism, including glycolysis and the pentose phosphate pathway, and insulin signaling. It is abundant in erythrocytes. BLVRB has been examined as a marker of oxidative stress and of hematologic disorders, and altered levels have been reported in some cancers and metabolic conditions.
