Description

Human BST1 / Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Antigen 1 ELISA

BST1 is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored molecule produced by bone marrow stromal cells that aids in the development of pre-B cells. BST1 expression is more frequent in rheumatoid arthritis bone marrow stromal cell lines. BST1 overexpression in the stromal cell population may play a role in the polyclonal B-cell abnormalities observed in rheumatoid arthritis. Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria and Hemoglobinuria are two other diseases linked to BST1. Protein metabolism, as well as post-translational modification - synthesis of GPI-anchored proteins, are among the mechanisms affected by BST1.
