Description

Human C9 ELISA Kit

Human C9 ELISA kits are used to detect Complement Component 9 (C9) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. C9 is the terminal component of the complement cascade and the pore-forming subunit of the membrane attack complex (MAC). The MAC is initiated when C5 is cleaved into C5b through the classical, alternative or lectin pathways; C9 then associates with the C5b8 intermediate and polymerises to complete a pore that inserts into the target cell membrane and causes lysis. C9 is synthesised mainly in the liver and circulates in plasma, as part of a system that drives phagocytosis, pathogen breakdown and signalling that strengthens adaptive immunity. C9 deficiency is associated with susceptibility to recurrent Neisseria infections, and variants have been linked to age-related macular degeneration, so C9 is studied as a marker of complement activation.
