Description

Human CA3 ELISA Kit

Human CA3 ELISA kits are used to detect Carbonic Anhydrase III, Muscle Specific (CA3) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. CA3, or carbonic anhydrase III, is a cytosolic zinc metalloenzyme that is expressed at high levels in skeletal muscle, especially in slow-twitch fibers, as well as in adipose tissue and the liver. Like other carbonic anhydrases it catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide to bicarbonate and a proton, although its catalytic activity is much lower than that of CA2. CA3 also contains reactive cysteine residues that can be S-glutathionylated, and it is thought to protect cells against oxidative stress. Because it is muscle-rich, it is released into the blood when skeletal muscle is damaged, so raised serum CA3 has been associated with muscle injury, muscular dystrophy and rhabdomyolysis.
