Description

Human CA6 ELISA Kit

Human CA6 ELISA kits are used to detect Carbonic Anhydrase VI (CA6) in serum, plasma, saliva and other biological samples. CA6, carbonic anhydrase VI, is a secreted zinc metalloenzyme of the carbonic anhydrase family that is produced mainly by the serous acinar cells of the salivary glands and also found in tears and milk. It is also known as gustin and salivary carbonic anhydrase. Like other family members it catalyses the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide to bicarbonate and a proton, a reaction central to acid-base balance. Its specific role in saliva is not fully established, though it is thought to contribute to buffering and to the protection of the oral and oesophageal surfaces. CA6 has also been linked to taste function and to dental caries susceptibility in some studies, so its level is examined as a salivary biomarker.
