Human CACNA1A ELISA Kit

Voltage-dependent calcium channels allow the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells and are also involved in a range of calcium-dependent activities, such as muscular contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, and gene expression. The expression of a wide range of alpha-1 isomers, alpha-1A, B, C, D, E, and S is responsible for the unique characteristics of calcium channel types. CACNA1A is involved in two neurologic diseases: familial hemiplegic migraine and episodic ataxia 2. CACNA1A has many transcript variations with (CAG)n-repeats found in the 3' UTR and are not connected to any disease. In another set of variations, the coding region is extended to include (CAG)n repeats that encode a polyglutamine tract, resulting in spinocerebellar ataxia 6. Expansion of the (CAG)n-repeats from 4 to 18 in the coding region is linked with spinocerebellar ataxia 6. The protein CACNA1A is linked to a variety of disorders, including Spinocerebellar Ataxia 6 and Episodic Ataxia, Type 2.
