Description

Human carboxyhemoglobin,HbCO ELISA Kit

Human carboxyhemoglobin,HbCO ELISA kits are used to detect carboxyhemoglobin,HbCO in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Carboxyhemoglobin, written carboxyhemoglobin,HbCO and often abbreviated HbCO, is the compound formed when carbon monoxide binds to the haem iron of haemoglobin in red blood cells. Carbon monoxide binds haemoglobin with an affinity roughly 200 to 250 times greater than oxygen, so even low concentrations displace oxygen, reduce the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood and shift the oxygen dissociation curve to the left, which impairs oxygen release to tissues. Small amounts of carbon monoxide arise during haem breakdown, while tobacco smoke, exhaust and faulty heaters raise it. High HbCO causes headache, confusion, cardiac effects and death in severe poisoning, so it is measured in toxicology, smoking and environmental exposure research.
