Description

Human CASR ELISA Kit

Human CASR ELISA kits are used to detect Calcium Sensing Receptor (CASR) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. CASR, the calcium-sensing receptor, is a class C G protein-coupled receptor that detects changes in the extracellular concentration of calcium ions and plays a key role in maintaining calcium homeostasis. It is expressed highly in the parathyroid glands and in the kidney, as well as in bone, the intestine and the brain. When circulating calcium is high, CASR activation reduces parathyroid hormone secretion, and in the kidney tubules it regulates calcium reabsorption, with G protein signalling through effectors such as phospholipase C. Inactivating mutations cause familial hypocalciuric hypercalcaemia and neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism, whereas activating mutations cause autosomal dominant hypocalcaemia. Calcimimetic drugs act on the receptor, so CASR is studied in mineral metabolism and endocrinology.
