Description

Human COL3a1 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human COL3a1 ELISA kits are used to detect Collagen Type III Alpha 1 (COL3a1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. COL3a1 encodes the alpha 1 chain of type III collagen, which assembles as a homotrimer into fibrils found in most soft connective tissues, alongside type I collagen, particularly in skin, blood vessels, the intestine and the uterus. It helps regulate fibril diameter and provides elasticity and tensile strength. Type III collagen is deposited early during wound healing and is later partly replaced by type I. In the developing brain it is the main ligand of the adhesion receptor GPR56, and this interaction restrains neuronal migration and shapes cortical development. Mutations in COL3A1 cause vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, with fragile arteries and organs, and have also been linked to cortical malformations.
