Description

Human CPE ELISA Kit

Human CPE ELISA kits are used to detect Carboxypeptidase E (CPE) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. CPE, or carboxypeptidase E, is a prohormone-processing enzyme found in neuroendocrine tissues including the pancreatic islets, pituitary and brain. After endoproteases cleave peptide hormone precursors, CPE removes the dibasic residues left at the C-terminal end, generating mature peptide hormones such as insulin and the enkephalins, which is why it is also called enkephalin convertase. It additionally acts as a sorting receptor that directs prohormones into the regulated secretory pathway. Loss-of-function variants cause BDV syndrome, which features obesity, intellectual disability and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and CPE has therefore been studied in obesity, diabetes and neuroendocrine disorders as an indicator of prohormone processing.
