Human CRYM / Thiomorpholine-carboxylate dehydrogenase ELISA Kit

Taxon-specific crystallins and ubiquitous crystallins are the two types of crystallins. Phylogenetically-restricted crystallins are another name for the first group. The latter class is made up of the major proteins found in vertebrate eye lenses, and it is responsible for maintaining the lens' transparency and refractive index. CRYM is a taxon-specific crystallin protein that binds NADPH and is related to bacterial ornithine cyclodeaminases in sequence. Instead of performing a structural role in lens tissue, CRYM binds thyroid hormone, possibly for regulatory or developmental purposes. Autosomal dominant non-syndromic deafness has been linked to mutations in CRYM.
