Description

Human CST1 ELISA Kit

Human CST1 ELISA kits are used to detect Cystatin 1 (CST1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CST1, also known as cystatin SN, is a member of the type 2 cystatin family of cysteine protease inhibitors and is found mainly in saliva and tears, where it is secreted by glandular tissues. Salivary cystatins differ in their specificity because of amino acid sequence differences, and cystatin SN is a much better inhibitor of papain and dipeptidyl peptidase I than the related cystatin S, although both inhibit ficin equally well. By restraining cysteine proteases, cystatins help protect tissues from uncontrolled proteolysis, including that caused by microbial or allergen proteases. Increased CST1 expression has been reported in several cancers, including gastric and colorectal tumours, and in allergic airway inflammation, so CST1 is studied as a potential biomarker.
