Description

Human CST5 ELISA Kit

Human CST5 ELISA kits are used to detect Cystatin 5 (CST5) in tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, saliva and other biological samples. CST5, also known as cystatin D, is a member of the type 2 cystatin family of cysteine protease inhibitors, which are small secreted proteins. It is found in saliva and other body fluids and is thought to protect against proteases present in the oral cavity, such as those derived from bacteria. It inhibits papain-like cysteine proteases, with a preference in the order cathepsin S, cathepsin H, cathepsin L and cathepsin B. Cystatins regulate the activity of cathepsins released during inflammation and tissue turnover. Altered cystatin D expression has been reported in some cancers, where it may have antiproliferative effects, so CST5 is studied in oral biology and tumour research.
